Monrovia, Liberia – In honor of the Holy Month of Ramadan, former Liberia President, George Manneh Weah has given food and cash to several mosques in Montserrado County. It is anticipated that the contribution, which started on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, will continue for the following week. In addition to $300 in cash each mosque recieved, the donation contained 15 cases of water and soft beverages, five cartons of fish, five cartons of chicken, and ten bags of rice. These supplies were given to a number of mosques in order to aid the Muslim community during their time of prayer and fasting.
The donation was made on behalf of the former president by Aworna Clarke, a member of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Disciplinary Committee. Clarke emphasized the donation as an indication of Weah’s ongoing support for Muslims and their religious beliefs while speaking at the Gurley Street Mosque.
On behalf of the Muslim community, Grand Mufti Sheik Abu Bakar Sumaworo accepted the donation and thanked former president Weah for his prompt and important contribution. “He has already helped the Muslim community in Liberia, so we are not shocked by this gesture,” Sumaworo said. He declared that Muslims will pray for peace and reconciliation in the nation during the holy month of Ramadan and underlined the need of maintaining national unity.
“In order to heal the differences in our country, we shall pray for peace throughout this Ramadan,” he continued.
