Yekepa, Nimba County – Darius G. Wonyen, a young Liberian Mining and Mineral Processing Engineer, gave an engaging presentation to students at ArcelorMittal Liberia’s (AML) Learning Week in Yekepa. He passionately described the long-term economic implications of the recently opened concentrator facility.
In his lecture titled “Our Concentrator, Our Future,” Wonyen gave students an educational tour of the iron ore processing plant’s operations. He explained complicated procedures and described how the factory adds value to iron ore before export using approachable language and engaging video examples.
Wonyen stressed that this plant is an opportunity rather than just a piece of equipment. “There won’t always be foreigners here. We can take control and profit from the economic expansion this initiative promises if we are ready today.”
He emphasized how the factory might help local companies, generate good-paying employment, and give talented Liberians long-term career opportunities. In order to prepare for future leadership in the industry, Wonyen also urged young people to seek professional training and technical education. “We should be able to look back in 25 years and say with pride that we worked here and helped Liberia grow,” he added.
He made a strong case for cooperation and readiness as he concluded his presentation, advising the audience that decisions taken now will influence how future generations see Liberia’s success with the significant economic investment.
Meanwhile, in Buchanan, AML’s IT Business Systems Superintendent, Ngaima Sandiman, presented a hands-on and forward-thinking workshop that maintained the pace of Learning Week 2025. She pushed staff members to adopt contemporary tools that increase efficiency and production and improve their digital abilities.
Sandiman’s lesson focused on the Microsoft Office Suite, emphasizing how Word, Excel, and PowerPoint may enable staff members to work more efficiently. “Embracing technology is about enabling ourselves to work more effectively, not just about staying up date. The Microsoft Suite is an effective collection of tools that help in task management, data analysis, and clear information presentation.”
Through practical activities, participants learned how to produce polished texts, construct Excel data models, and use PowerPoint to make engaging presentations. Many participants expressed excitement about using their new abilities immediately. The training course was commended for being relevant and interactive.
The two workshops, one on digital empowerment and the other on industrial transformation, demonstrate ArcelorMittal Liberia’s ongoing dedication to knowledge transfer, capacity building, and long-term national development.
As AML makes investments in both personnel and infrastructure, Learning Week 2025 is contributing to the development of a workforce that is technologically proficient, technically skilled, and prepared to guide Liberia into a more promising, self-sufficient future.
