Liberia maintains slot on the International Referees list, says Stanley Konah

The Director of Football Referees at the Liberian football house, Stanley Konah has refuted a media report indicating that Liberia has lost its slot on the International referees’ list for the 2022 calendar year.

Recently, the Confederation of African Football released its final list of referees to officiate the 2022 African Nations Cup in Cameroon without Liberian referees being short-listed; something that raised serious concerns among football lovers in the country.

But, making clarification to some members of the Sports Writers Association of Liberia recently at the ATS in Monrovia, Mr. Konah, said despite the Liberian referee’s omission from the Nations Cup, the country maintained her position on the FIFA referees list for 2022.

” The FIFA badge Referees are in several categories, namely: elite A, B, and C. Our match officials are in elite B and C but to have said we have lost our slot for the 2022 calendar year is not true. We have maintained our position up there. The only thing we wanted is a little increment in the number of officials, which we sent 12 but they accepted nine. The Nations Cup or World Cup is here and the Referees board has elected officials to officiate in those tournaments. Nobody questions their selections because it is their job to determine which Referees they select, but their selection normally comes from Referees who are placed in elite A”, Mr. Konah expressed.

According to him, only 𝐒𝐲𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐭 was selected as the female FIFA badge Referee in the past, but today we have Hannah Moses and Tracy Chayee added to the list which is welcoming news for us. Hassan Corner is in elite B which makes him the most senior Liberian referee. Hassan actually has a chance of being in elite A based on his performance in 2022. Hassan has gone through Video Assistant Referee (VAR) training recently which I think you guys are aware of, Mr. Konah narrated.

Here are the Nine out of 12 nominated Liberian referees that have been accepted by FIFA to officiate international matches in 2022, beginning with central Referees:

𝐇𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐡, 𝐒𝐲𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐭, 𝐌𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐩𝐚𝐡, 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐊𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐡, 𝐉𝐫 and 𝐄𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐡

    𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙍𝙚𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙨 are:

𝐉𝐨𝐞𝐥 𝐃𝐨𝐞, 𝐄𝐩𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐦 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭, 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐞, and 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐚𝐡 𝐌𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐬
