China Union Accused of Plotting with former Finance Minister

FOR STALLING DEVELOPMENT IN BONG COUNTY, BY USING THE COUNTY SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT FUND

Monrovia, Liberia – China Union has been accused of working with former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah on social development money in order to impede progress in the county, according to Senator Prince Moye, the chair of the Bong County Legislative Caucus.

At a press conference held at his Capitol Building Office on Thursday, February 15, 2024, the Chair of the Caucus informed legislative reporters that the China Union has been using the backdoor to negotiate the county’s development agenda at the expense of its residents in recent years.

He emphasized that the concession is legally binding and that, in his capacity as chair, any negotiations the major concession company had with the Ministry of Finance and Development-Planning, which was led by former Minister Tweah, to reduce the company’s social contribution to Bong County, would be reviewed and appropriately addressed.

Senator Moye also addressed MNG Gold Liberia, a Turkish mining firm that operates in Bong County, stating that the caucus has been deeply troubled by the business’s plodding operations.

Then, he revealed that a constituency representative had recently been forcibly removed from the ArcelorMittal Liberia Board, in violation of the county’s exclusive representational rights.

Senator Prince Moye also asserted that the county has not used the development budget within the specified period since, for the past two years, it has been engulfed in legal and audit concerns.
