The Collaborating Political Parties says it believes the increase in criminal activities in Liberia is as a result of the unprecedented economic hardship and ever-increasing illegal drug trafficking and selling in the country.
The CPP statement is in response to the clash between officers of the Liberia National Police and supposed criminals in Duala in which three persons were feared dead with others injured.
According to a statement issued by the CPP on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, said, drug abuse by those disadvantaged youths has also turned them into hardened marauding criminals with no apparent actions taken by the government to rehabilitate and they reintegrated into society.
The CPP noted that multiple reports have suggested that three persons died as a result of the shootout in Duala and that it is very concerned with the increased loss of lives through any violent action. The release under the signature of CPP Head of Secretariat Mo Ali stated that the CPP takes note of the police and other security agencies for undertaking their responsibility to begin to fight crimes and raid criminal’s hideouts and ghettos, but this venture is coming at a time when the government has failed to protect the state and its people.
The CPP called on the government to also divert its attention to funding rehabilitation programs for disadvantaged youths, with rehabilitation programs initiated across the country.
