-Congratulates Her on her Preferment as Resident Representative

Amb. Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., Liberia’s foreign minister, received Madam Bidisha Pillai, UNFPA Resident Representative to Liberia, on Friday when the newly accredited UNFPA representative presented her Letter of Accreditation.

The ceremony, according to a release from the foreign ministry, was held in the conference room on the fourth level of the institution.

In welcoming the UNFPA Resident Representative to Liberia, Minister Kemayah praised the UN and its agencies for everything that they have done for the Liberian government and people, saying that since 1979, the two countries’ relations have only gotten stronger.

According to him, the organization plays a crucial role in advancing Liberia’s development agenda due to its assistance in providing statistics about women and the young population as well as essential health-related and empowerment initiatives like the fistula that is currently affecting some women.

Minister Kemayah also expressed gratitude and appreciation to her predecessor for the fruitful and successful cooperation with Liberia under her tenure.

In order to further Liberia’s development priorities, he assured the UNFPA official of the government’s unshakable commitment and support.

Minister Kemeyah welcomed Madam Bidisha Pillai to Liberia and congratulated her on her preference on behalf of President George Manneh Weah, the government, and the people of Liberia.

Minister Kemayah also expressed optimism for Madam Pillai’s successful and gratifying service in Liberia.

The Minister also mentioned how the UNFPA programs benefit the young people in the country, noting that they give them the opportunities they need to support themselves, which is one of the Weah-led administration’s top priorities.

For her part, the recently appointed UNFPA Resident Representative Madam Bidisha Pillai thanked the Liberian government and people for their warm welcome of her and her organization while handing the minister her Letter of Accreditation.“I bring you compliments from UN Headquarters.”

In order to improve the country’s initiatives for women’s, youth, and women’s empowerment, Madam Pillai told the minister of foreign affairs that her organization is ready to collaborate closely with the government of Liberia.

“We are here to support your Government’s efforts in promoting its development priorities”.
