Claims US$19 Million Drug Case would soon see Arrests
Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberian Senate has been informed by the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police (LNP) that a number of Joint Security members who were tasked with looking into the reported US$19 million drug seizure at Robert International Airport have been removed from the case due to claims that they leaked classified information.
During a Senate hearing on the current high-profile special inquiry on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the police inspector general claims that the impacted officers are currently the subject of an ongoing investigation for allegedly disclosing private audio and video recordings associated with the case.
He informed lawmakers that investigators are currently investigating the officers’ electronic devices to ascertain the origin and scope of the security breach. Despite the setback, the inspector general reassured senators that the investigation’s integrity is unaffected, highlighting the authorities’ dedication to maintaining accountability.
He further said that as the investigation progresses, a number of people connected to the drug trafficking case are anticipated to be taken into custody before the end of the week. The most recent events highlight the government’s increased attempts to combat organized drug trafficking while resolving worries about the unapproved release of private material that would jeopardize one of Liberia’s most important drug investigations.
