Koijee Describes Assets Recovery Team As Reckless Arrangement by President Boakai

Monrovia, Liberia – Jefferson Tamba Koijee, the Secretary-General of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) and a former Mayor of Monrovia, called President Boakai’s Assets Recovery Team an irresponsible plan and stated that no CDcian would cooperate with them.

SG Koijee revealed that the party has directed its members to reject any measure that violates the constitution at a news conference on Friday, March 15, 2024, held at the party’s headquarters in Congo Town.

“Mr. Boakai needs to understand that the Coalition for Democratic Change has told all of its members to oppose giving in to pressure. If Mr. Boakai tries to break the constitution, he will face stiff opposition. One example is the Asset Recovery, which is viewed by the CDC as complete gibberish and for which no official can accept responsibility.”

“Let Mr. Boakai know that not even a chicken from the CDC can submit to that reckless arrangement. We openly defiled you with a bode face, we say to you that what you term as Asset Recovery is a reckless arrangement.”

Koijee cautioned President Joseph Boakai against taking on more than he can handle and suggested that the Liberian leader concentrate on the position for which he was chosen by the people.

After Mr. Mulbah Morlu stepped down a few weeks ago, the CDC, through Koijee, named Atty. Augustine Janga Kowo as the Acting National Chair to guide the party to its National Convention in April 2024.

It is documented that President Boakai issued Executive Order No. 126 on Asset Recovery, which gave him the legal power and mandate to recover any government property that had been unlawfully obtained.

However, the Unity Party Montserrado Youth Congress reacted sharply to Jefferson Koijee’s remark against President Boakai, emphasizing that the CDC Secretary General spoke completely ignorantly and that all public properties that have been looted will be paid for by former government officials without conducting a witch hunt.

In a press release issued over the weekend, Unity Party Montserrado Youth Congress Chair Sylvester Wonplue said that the organization is prepared to take legal action against Koijee and his gangs for any undemocratic action against presidential policy. He also cautioned the CDC against making statements that are detrimental to good governance.
