Monrovia, Liberia – The President of Liberia, George Manneh Weah has stated that Liberia will have a seat on the UN Security Council. Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Liberia, Mr. Weah announced that Liberia had received the support of the Heads of State of ECOWAS countries to represent the West African region to the Security Council at the UN, which he hailed as a boost to Liberia’s growth and development.

Liberia’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the years 2026–2027, for which elections are expected to take place in June 2025, was noted by the authorities of ECOWAS at its 63rd Ordinary Session in Guinea Bissau. The Republic of Liberia’s bid for the years 2026–2027 was supported by the heads of state of ECOWAS members.

The Authority expressed its sincere gratitude to all of the Community’s development partners for their ongoing assistance in helping the Community achieve its goals of regional integration and consolidating peace and security.

Speaking on his trip to Israel, Mr. Weah said, the meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, commits to Stronger Economic Cooperation. He noted that stressed both countries stressed the importance of enhancing the long-standing diplomatic ties subsisting between both counties through a vibrant economic cooperation.

In order to help Liberia become self-sufficient in food through Israeli investments and technologies, both leaders have decided to collaborate to strengthen economic ties between their nations, the Liberian Leader added. The Israelis government promised to support Liberia’s agricultural sector, focusing on the nation’s primary crop, rice.
