    Liberia receives 79,200 Johnson and Johnson vaccinations from South Africa

    Monrovia-As the fight against the deadly Covid-19 virus in the world continues, the government of South Africa has donated seventy-nine thousand two hundred (79,200) Johnson and Johnson vaccines to the government of Liberia through the Ministry of Health.

    Making the donation on behalf of the government and people of South Africa the Deputy Minister of International Relations and cooperation Candith Mashego-Dlamini disclosed that the vaccines were produced in South Africa and it has been proven and tested by certified professional Doctors in the World.

    She said Liberia and South Africa have had strong relations as far as the 1960s as such, the government and people of South Africa will always remember the significant role Liberia played in providing an enabling environment that led to the independence of South Africa in 1961. Candith Mashego-Dlamini reaffirmed the government of South Africa’s commitment to maintaining the relationship between the two countries.

    She noted that the COVID-19 pandemic brought a complete setback to every country’s economy across the world there is a need for Africans to unite and defeat the virus; she said Africans are capable of doing research and finding solutions to some of these health complications that people are confronted with in the World.

    The South African Diplomatic maintained that Africans can do more only if they are given the opportunity to do extensive research with the necessary equipment; She extended gratitude to African countries that supported South Africa during the experiment and production process of the vaccines. She used the occasion to inform the public that the South African government selected twenty-six African countries including Liberian to help Combark the virus. According to her, the government and people of South Africa are interested in eradicating the virus from the world.

    Receiving the Donation on behalf of the government and people of Liberia the Minister of Health Doctor Wilhelmina Jallah appreciated and congratulated the government and people of South Africa for their kind gesture. She used the occasion to inform the public that more than three point two million people have been vaccinated across the country but it has not reached the ninety percent target proscribed by the World Health Organization (WHO).

    She noted that the donation from the South African government will help the ministry of Health to reach the target audience. Minister Jallah at the same time admonished those who are yet to take advantage of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine to reach any Health facility to be vaccinated as to prevent the virus.

    The handover Ceremony took place Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at the Ministry of Justice in Monrovia.
