Paynesville City—Liberia’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup were dashed on Saturday, May 30th, after they lost to Ghana 2-0 in the second leg of their qualifying match at the SKD Sports Complex.

After losing the first match at Accra Sports Stadium 6-0, the Young Female Lone Stars faced a formidable task going into the second leg. In Paynesville, Ghana finished the job with yet another outstanding performance, winning 8-0 on aggregate to move on to the next round.

Liberia struggled to overcome the first-leg deficit despite playing in front of their home crowd, as the visitors again showed their skill and expertise throughout the match. After Libya withdrew from the qualifiers, Liberia progressed to play Ghana, but the two-leg match proved to be too difficult for the West African superpower.

Ghana maintains its pursuit of a spot at the international competition, while Liberia’s 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualification campaign comes to an end with the loss.
