Tewor District, Grand Cape Mount County—Grand Cape Mount County officially launched women’s football on Friday, May 29, with a historic exhibition match in Tewor District. The two-day competition aimed to encourage young girls in the county to play football while showcasing Grand Cape Mount’s abundance of talent.
The project also sought to demonstrate to the Liberia Football Association (LFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports that the county is home to talented female football players who ought to be given the opportunity to develop and compete at higher levels.

Mr. H. Mohamed Jaliebah, CEO and founder of Nations Eye Princess FC, is the driving force behind the outstanding project. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Jaliebah thanked everyone who helped create history by holding what is thought to be the district’s first-ever female football game and applauded the enormous turnout.
Mr. Edward S. Freeman, the chairperson of the LFA Grand Cape Mount Subcommittee, also gave a speech during the event. He commended the teams that took part as well as their owners for planning such an innovative event.
According to Freeman, the event was a major turning point for women’s football in the county, especially in the Tewor District. In order to create a Women’s Lower League, he also promised to assist in getting the LFA to travel to Grand Cape Mount and the Western Region.
Mr. Boakai S. Massaquoi, the Tewor District Sports Chairperson, expressed gratitude to the organizers and urged parents and guardians to see women’s football as a vital way to support young girls in realizing their aspirations. Additionally, he urged the government to provide Grand Cape Mount female athletes with chances to display their skills on bigger stages.
The significance of creating a women’s league in Grand Cape Mount was emphasized by Mr. Stephen A. Kaifa, president of Porkpa Queens FC, another important force behind the proposal. He pointed out that more teams will be formed as a result of the increased interest in women’s football, which would ultimately boost the county’s participation in Liberia’s national women’s football tournaments.
Nations Eye Princess FC defeated Porkpa Queens FC 3-0 in the exhibition game at the Tewor District Field in Gohn Town. Hawa Samah opened the scoring in spectacular fashion with a superb free kick after 10 minutes of play, giving Nations Eye Princess FC an early advantage.
After the break, Satta V. Fahnbulleh doubled the lead with a powerful strike from outside the penalty area. Porkpa Queens FC pushed forward in search of a response and came close to scoring, but their efforts were denied by the outstanding goalkeeping of the Nations Eye Princess FC shot stopper.
