Monrovia- The Minister of Public Works has notified the Liberian Senate that East International is technically unable to continue building the ELWA to Robert International Airport Highway road project in Margibi County.

On Monday, November 5, 2022, in Monrovia, Minister Ruth Cooker Collins testified before the Liberian Senate that a stakeholder discussion is necessary to advance a prospective amendment of the contract between the Liberian government and East International.

Minister Collins stated that the RIA Road is in poor shape and that the firm is overburdened with the construction work on it, which causes considerable humiliation for citizens and investors entering the nation.

In Margibi County, there are deep trenches on either side of the road from ELWA Junction to Smell-No-Taste that frequently result in fatal accidents.

At the regularly scheduled press conference held by the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT) on Thursday, October 27, 2022, in Monrovia, Minister Collins listed several important projects that President George Weah will assign before his first term is up, including the 6.1-kilometer ELWA Junction to Cocoala factory and RIA Highway.

She also took the opportunity to remind the public that the Grand Bassa Community Institution has started construction work and that engineers are currently working on the bridge connecting the college, which will be completed before the president’s first term ends.

With the current situation, the decision is in the preview of the plenary of the Liberian Senate for rectification.
