Monrovia, Liberia- According to the Ministry of Public Works, the Liberian government will need ten billion US dollars to create roads connecting to every area of the nation. Of this sum, five million US dollars will be needed in the south-eastern counties to link up every county in that region. Minister Ruth Cooker Collins made the announcement on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism’s (MICAT) regular press conference in Monrovia. She claimed that after conducting a recent assessment of the area, she had come to the conclusion that the South Eastern Corridor Road is one of the more challenging routes for people to travel freely.
However, she restated the government’s commitment to building a segment of the road during this dry season and urged the people of the area to maintain their concentration as the administration of President George M. Weah will continue to create roads connecting county capitals. According to Minister Collins, the primary roads connecting Zwedru to Fish Town, Barclayville to Greenville, Greenville to ITI, and ITI to Buchanan City are extremely difficult for vehicles to travel through. She made this observation after conducting an assessment of the region and determining that the major roads connecting the South Eastern corridor covered 500 kilometers.
According to the public works minister, the government has launched a project called small skill hubs that will be located between major corridors across the nation, including Grand Bassa to Greenville, Grand Bassa to Rivercess, Toes Town to Fish Town, and the Lofa corridor. She also mentioned that due to the condition of major roads throughout the nation, the Hub’s goal is to keep an eye on the state of the country’s roads in order to prevent any harm that the government is unaware of.
Ahead of the 2023 general and Presidential elections, Minister Collins pointed out key projects that will be delegated by president George Weah before his first tenure can come to an end including Kailo Can to Fish Town 80 Kilometer, Sanniquellie to Logatuo road 47.1 Kilometer, Ganta to Sanniquellie road 67 Kilometers, ELWA Junction to Cocoala factory 6.1 Kilometer, Gbarnga to Sanoiye 81Kilometer, Ganta to Sankapiah 39 Kilometers, Fish Town to Kellepo 20Kilometer the rehabilitation of Freeport to St. Paul Bridge project 6.5 Kilometer and the remaining Dexville to Cardwell road corridor and Madinah Highway these are projects that will be delighted early 2023 Minister Collins narrated.
She also took the opportunity to remind the public that the Grand Bassa Community Institution has started construction work and that engineers are currently working on the bridge connecting the college, which will be completed before the president’s first term ends.
