Montserrado District #10 Lawmaker Kolubah Expelled From HOR

Monrovia, Liberia – A resolution to remove Representative Yekeh Kolubah of Montserrado County District #10 has been signed by 49 members of the House of Representatives. The House’s Committee on Rules, Order, and Administration, led by Representative James Kolleh of Bong County, conducted an inquiry and made a recommendation before making the decision.

Representative Kolubah was found guilty for comments he made regarding Liberia during a border conflict with Guinea, according to the committee’s findings. Kolubah reportedly said that President Joseph Boakai should allow Guinea to take control of the disputed land at the Sorlumba Port of Entry.

Citing the “grave” nature of Representative Kolubah’s remarks and their possible repercussions, Representative Sumo Mulbah, lawmaker of Montserrado County, lodged a complaint with the House over Kolubah’s attitude. It was recommended by the Committee on Rules, Order, and Administration that Representative Kolubah be dismissed from the House and turned over to the Ministry of Justice for further action.

In accordance with the House standards, the committee informed the Plenary that Representative Kolubah received due process. Cllrs. Moriah Yeakula and Jonathan Massaquoi, as well as one of Representative Kolubah’s three solicitors, former Associate Justice Kabineh Ja’neh, left due to procedural issues.

Representative Sumo Mulbah, the complaint, presented what he called proof to the committee and explained why his colleague should be penalized. Two video recordings of Rep. Kolubah making the statements ascribed to him were shown by Rep. Mulbah during the hearing.

The committee made it clear that neither Rep. Kolubah nor his legal team were authorized to leave the hearing. Consequently, the proceedings went on without them. Representative Kolubah, who was expelled, called for the Supreme Court of Liberia to step in and stop the House from moving further in light of the worsening circumstances.

On Friday, April 17, 2026, the House expelled the Montserrado County District #10 representative, disobeying the court’s decision. The resolution was signed by 49 members, or a two-thirds majority. The Supreme Court’s next course of action is still unknown because its order was disregarded. Since then, Representative Kolubah has been banished and sent to the Ministry of Justice for potential prosecution.

Representative Kolubah rejected both the House’s decision and the committee’s recommendations, informing journalists that he plans to pursue legal action after the ruling. As he carefully left the Capitol grounds on Friday, Kolubah informed a gathering of congressional reporters, “We will seek redress from the court.” Kolubah disclosed that he was asked to apologise to President Boakai by a number of people, a request he claimed he turned down.

“I want the Liberian people to know that we are all the owners of this nation. I am frequently requested to go ask Mr. Boakai for forgiveness, but doing so would be a betrayal of the confidence of the Liberian people. I’ve been requested to leave the country as well, but I can’t leave the people behind. We must be present if the Liberian people are in pain. This administration was created by me. I know that my arrest has been authorised by Mr. Boakai.”

Kolubah said, “Let them come take me into custody. I’m on my way to my home on 19th Street.”
