Monrovia, Liberia – All is set for this year’s 2023–2024 National County Sports Meet, according to the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The government holds the biggest sporting event in the nation every year to promote harmony and peace in Liberia. The competition’s theme for this year is “Liberia, A Nation United Under One Purpose.”
Rivergee County will serve as the official host for this year’s edition, according to the organisers. The tournament will begin on December 16, 2023, in Fish Town with an opening ceremony and exciting football matches. On December 17, 2023, events will take place at various locations where counties have been paired in groups.
Group A pairs the host Rivergee with the counties of Sinoe, Grand Gedeh, and Maryland. Montserrado, Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, and Gbarpolu Counties made Group B. Their matches are scheduled to be played at the ATS in Central Monrovia.
Group C hosts Nimba, Rivercess, Bong, and Grand Kru Counties, while Group D comprises Margibi, Grand Bassa, and Lofa Counties. As part of the 2023/2024 National County Sports Meet’s successful organisation, APM Terminal Liberia handed over the jerseys for the event to the Liberian government on Monday, December 4, 2023, via the Ministry of Youth and Sports at the APM Terminal Liberia Offices in the Monrovia Freeport.
The football division’s defending champions, Nimba County, defeated Lofa County 3-2 in the championship game. But Lofa emerged victorious in the kickball division, defeating Nimba 2-0 via home runs. Sinoe County defeated Montserrado County by a small margin to win the basketball championship.
