Monrovia, Liberia – Through Nekotech’s partnership with the Liberian government, more than 250 Liberian students are anticipated to get access to a no-collateral loan program. Speaking at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, President Joseph N. Boakai declared that Nekotech’s US$1 billion no-collateral student loan scheme for African students will help over 250 Liberian students.

The President noted that the loan scheme would enable more than 250 Liberian students to enroll in top-notch STEM programs at prestigious universities in the US and Canada, and that they will return with the knowledge that will propel Liberia’s progress.

The President addressed the students, encouraging them to take advantage of the chance, work hard in their studies, give it their best, participate fully, and return to Liberia determined to give back.

“Remember that you are one of the lucky few to get this chance out of the nation’s five million+ residents. Therefore, your success is our success as a group,” he continued.

He said the Scholarship Program fits in well with the government’s ARREST Agenda (which is the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development), which emphasizes education, especially in STEM fields, and human capacity building.

The strength of Liberia’s youth is the foundation for its future prosperity, Boakai said, adding that his government is committed to giving young people chances to develop their leadership, knowledge, and skill sets.

“Let me express our deepest gratitude to Nekotech for this initiative. By investing in the future of our young people, you are investing in the future of our nation. You have extended an open hand to Liberia’s most promising minds, enabling them to realize their dreams and equipping them to help realize our dreams for Liberia.”

The Liberian leader narrated that many of the students who will become beneficiaries would not have benefited due to financial limitations, particularly when collateral is required for loans.

He explained that Liberia is on a promising path toward development, and STEM education stands as a critical pillar in achieving this vision.

“On behalf of the people of Liberia, I extend my heartfelt thanks to Nekotech and to all the partners who have made this opportunity possible,” President Boakai stated.

The President added that the generosity and vision of Nekotech has given Liberian’s youth and indeed, the entire country a brighter future ahead.

He also reminded the students to always Think Liberia, Love Liberia, and Build Liberia as they emback on their educational joining.
