Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has returned to Liberia following a one-day state visit to Cote d’Ivoire. In an interview with a group of Executive Mansion reporters, President Boakai characterized the visit as amicable and productive.

Speaking on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Roberts International Airport, President Boakai praised his Ivorian counterpart for their warm welcome and readiness to support Liberia in a number of areas, including agriculture, security, and electricity.

President Boakai noted that President Alassane Quattara has promised to continue influencing Liberia’s progress.

The President revealed that during their conversation, his Ivorian counterpart had consented to extend its grid to Liberia in order to boost the country’s electricity supply, which will ultimately help the nation’s populace as a whole.

He went on to say that both nations are worried about the subregion’s security situation, which is why Ivory Coast has indicated a desire to cooperate in bolstering the security sector.

“Cote d’Ivoire is open to restructuring and is even thinking about granting us more electricity. They are also open to cooperating with us on the security line, where our joint security meetings will take place.”

To promote growth, President Boakai did, however, pledge to collaborate with his colleague to further solidify the two nations’ positive ties.

Long-standing friendships, trade, intermarriages, cohabitation, and cultural exchanges have all been features of the history of Liberia and Cote d’Ivoire.

The President was accompany by the Foreign Minister Sarah Beysolow-Nyanti, Ministry of Finance and Development Planning Minister Boima S. Kamara, Agriculture Minister J. Alexander Nuetah, Senior Economic Advisor to the President Morley Paul Kamara, and Liberia Electricity Managing Director Monie R. Captan.

Other members of the delegation included the Acting Chief of Protocol Antoinette Wolo, Presidential Press Secretary Kula B.N. Fofana, and Executive Assistant to the President Morie Yuade Nemah.
