Press Secretary Challenges FLY Leadership To Unite Liberia’s Youth

Reported by: Prince Saah

Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia’s Presidential Press Secretary Atty. Kula Bonah Nyei Fofana has challenged the newly inaugurated leadership of the Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY) to unite young people across Liberia, emphasizing that the organization must serve as an inclusive platform that represents the interests of all youth, regardless of political affiliation.

Speaking Friday, June 26, 2026, during the inauguration ceremony of FLY’s new leadership at Monrovia City Hall, Fofana called on the Federation to promote unity, inclusiveness, and national development by bringing together young Liberians from every county and every political background.

She stressed that while young people may differ in their political beliefs and ideologies, such differences should never prevent them from working together to advance programs that improve their lives.

According to her, employment opportunities, leadership development initiatives, and other youth-centred programmes should benefit all Liberian youth rather than any particular political constituency.

Reflecting on her own experience in youth leadership, Fofana said her involvement in several youth organizations, including her tenure as Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports, taught her the value of collaboration and inclusive development.

“We may not always agree, but we can agree to work together because, at the end of the day, the benefits of national development belong to every young Liberian,” she added.

However, Fofana urged the new leadership to ensure that the Federation’s activities extend beyond Monrovia and Montserrado County, noting that young people in all 15 counties deserve equal opportunities to participate in national programs and decision-making.

She also welcomed the growing participation of young women in leadership, describing it as an encouraging sign for Liberia’s future. She encouraged the Federation to continue creating opportunities for young women while harnessing the talents, creativity, and energy of all young people.

The press secretary further called on the organization to engage students, community-based organizations, civil society groups, and youth from across the political spectrum, stressing that FLY must remain representative of the collective aspirations of Liberia’s youth.

She encouraged the new leadership to embrace constructive ideas from young people nationwide and seek the guidance and mentorship of former Federation leaders as they carry out their responsibilities.

Congratulating the newly inaugurated leadership, Fofana expressed confidence that through unity, inclusiveness, and collaboration, the Federation of Liberian Youth would continue to champion the interests of young Liberians and contribute meaningfully to national development.
