As Liberia, participates in this year’s celebration of the Day of the African Child, the Vice-principal for Administration at the Smart Kids Resource Center Located at Joe Bar- Old road is challenging the government of Liberia through the Ministry of education to fully support the educational sectors in the country.
According to Arthur Neor, the educational sectors in the country need total revamping in order to save the future of the next generation. He expressed that most of the school-going kids are seriously challenged in such, it is prudent for officials of government to pay serious attention to the sectors.
He lamented that the educational sector is challenged even in Montserrado County, lest to mention the Rural parts of the country. The VP said, there are institutions operating in the rural parts of the country where pupils are compared to sit on stones to write something he described as an unfortunate situation.
Mr. Neor noted that due to the poor learning environment, some students are in the constant habit of staying away from school something he took serious accession against. He at the same time motivated students in the country to remain focused amidst the numerous challenges in the country.
He, however, called on parents to continue to give full support to their kids and not depend on the government for the growth and development of the country, he also dedicated the day of the African Child to kids of the Smart Kids Resource Center.
The day of the African Child is celebrated on June 16, every year since 1991, when it was first initiated by the Organisation of African Unity (OAU). It honors those who participated in the Soweto uprising in 1976 on that day. It also raises awareness of the continuing need for improvement of the education provided to African children.
With all of the energy exerted by some parents in Liberia to educate their Kids, there are numerous challenges confronted by parents educating their child or children. Some kids in Liberia are still confronted with challenges such as the poor form of education, violation of Child Rights, Child trafficking, and Rape amongst other.
