Monrovia, Liberia – The National Election Commission of Liberia has informed the general public that Nyan Twayen of the Unity Party is in the lead of the just ended senatoral race in Nimba County. Twayen leads his oppositions with 19,966 votes.
Samuel Kogar of the People Unification Party obtained 3,737 votes as per the provisional results, whiles, Thomas Grupee of RNC obtained 520 votes.
The NEC reported that the by-elections in Nimba and Grand Gedeh were conducted under a peaceful atmosphere. Speaking on Wednesday April 24, 2024 at NEC headquaters in Monrovia, NEC Chairperson, Madam Davidetta Browm-Lassanah disclosed that the tally process began today, April 24, 2024, at the two magisterial offices in Nimba (Sanniquellie, Upper Nimba) and (Tappita, Lower Nimba) as well as the Grand Gedeh magisterial office in Zwedru in the presence of candidates agents and independent observers.
The head of NEC reported that the tallied results from the magisterial offices are being progressively transmitted to the Data Center at the NEC Headquarters where they are being collated for announcement.
In Grand Gedeh by-election District number one, Jeremiah Sokan leads with 2,067 votes, Amelia Beh 995 votes, and Ansu Dukuly obtained 860 votes to form part of the top three in the NEC provisional result of yesterdays voting.
The Nimba County senatorial and Grand Gedeh District number one Representative by-election were conducted yesterday, April 23, 2024. On February 1, 2024, the Liberian Senate announced existence vacancy in the two counties due to the election of former Nimba County Senator Jeremiah Kpan Koungas Vice President on the Joseph N. Boakai presidential ticket in the 2023 presidential and legislative elections on October 10, 2023, and November 14, 2023, presidential run-off election.
Similarly, on February 2, 2024, the House of Representatives notified the commission of a vacancy due to the passing of Honorable Erol Madison Gwion, Representative-elect of Grand Gedeh County District number one, who was elected during the October 10, 2023, presidential and legislative elections.
