For The Dismissal Of 13 US Employees
Monrovia, Liberia – Human Rights activist, Vandalrak R. Patrick has called on the new US Ambassador to Liberia, Mark Toner, to intervene on the violation of rights of 13 Liberian employees that was dismissed by the US embassy.
Patrick spoke at the CEIO Intellectual Forum on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, stating that “13 Liberian rights were violated by the US embassy of which was not in accordance to the embassy handbook.”
He emphasized on the employees working with the embassy for 10 to 15 years without criminal records got dismissed due to allegations that the embassy described as “stemming” which he said was wrong. He added that “the US embassy is refusing to give those employees their severance benefits they have worked hard for”.
Mr. Patrick added that this generation should come together as one in resisting the say “yes, sir!!” to the U.S.A if they want and wish for a better Liberia.
Mr. Patrick believed that these Liberian employees had been illegally let go, since their removal did not follow US embassy handbook guidelines. Mr. Patrick urged the Liberian government to help the US government guarantee that justice is applied.
“The ones we believed to be champion of peace when it comes to justice, and human dignity are the ones that are not acting in full concert with the law of human morality and the constitution of the USA. It is forbidden and unacceptable for a foreign embassy like the united states of America coming on Liberian soil in dismissing our brothers and sisters who have committed no crime, who served the US government for 13 to 14 years.”
“If we as Liberians remain silent on issue that affects our nation, the dignity of our people, because of fear to be denied visa at the US embassy, will lead nation to fall. America is not the only location one can dwell.”
Mr. Patrick discussed the grave transgression the United States claims to defend and safeguard on foreign territory like Liberia. He called on US Ambassador Mark Toner to review and give justice to the fired workers.
