NEC COMPLAIN OF BAD ROAD CONDITION
Monrovia, Liberia – The National Election Commission is reporting that one of the major issues the Commission must address before the 2023 election is road connection within the fifteen political sub-division of Liberia.
Commissioner Boakai Dukuly, speaking on behalf of NEC at the recently concluded EU-Liberia Political Dialogue on Thursday, June 22, 2023, claimed that since the implementation of the biometric voter registration, accessing rural places has been difficult due to the state of the roads which are very bad.
The NEC has made headway toward holding an inclusive, transparent, and peaceful election in October, according to Commissioner Dukuly. With this latest development from NEC, the commission is going to find it difficult with the transportation of electoral documents.
The Commissioner however praised the EU and its partners for their ongoing assistance to the National Election Commission ahead of the October 10, 2023, presidential and legislative elections.
According to records, one of the concerns raised by the Weah administration for the 2020 referendum was the need to move the elections from the rainy to the dry seasons because of the country’s poor roads, particularly in rural Liberia, and the routes connecting the fifteen counties.
