Monrovia, Liberia – The Minister of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), Boima Kamara, has met with a high-level delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) led by Daehaeng Kim DK, who is currently in Monrovia from June 24 to July 5, 2024, conducting an assessment on the Extended Credit Facility (ECF)/New Country Program.
Negotiating the ECF New Country Program is the goal of the IMF assessment mission to Liberia in order to guarantee inclusive development and macroeconomic stability for the country.
The team’s visit is in response to an invitation extended by President Joseph Nyumah Boakai during his December 2023 visit to the IMF headquarters.
The mission will entail a number of scheduled meetings with foreign partners, donor organizations, and financial and governmental institutions in Liberia.
The objective is to establish the policy agenda, assess budgetary performance, and talk about the structural changes required to maintain the stability of Liberia’s economy.
The Presidency, the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, the Central Bank of Liberia, the Liberia Revenue Authority, the Legislature, the PPCC, the LBDI, the World Bank, the AfDB, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and LISGIS are just a few of the locations that the IMF Mission is anticipated to visit between June 24 and July 5, 2024.
In remarks made to the IMF delegation on Monday, June 24, 2024, at the Ministry of Finance in Monrovia, Minister Kamara reaffirmed Liberia’s gratitude for the collaboration.
He agree, the country would benefit greatly from the IMF’s restoration of the CEF program. He also noted that the European Union and the World Bank will continue to be involved in future agreements.
Keeping the CEF program on track will essentially entail ensuring that issues pertaining to budgetary support, as well as additional support for vital infrastructure in our nation from USIAD and other partners, are addressed. This will also hint at the importance of Liberia’s good governance practices when it comes to fiscal management.”
The IMF delegation was informed by Liberia’s Finance Minister that the country anticipates a fruitful mission.
