Iran to hold 2026 World Cup Base Camp in Tijuana, Mexico

Monrovia, Liberia—Despite initially choosing Tucson, Arizona, FIFA has now confirmed that Iran will host their 2026 World Cup base camp in Tijuana, Mexico. FIFA rejected the Iranian federation’s request to shift all of its World Cup matches to Mexico due to the current tensions between the USA and Iran .

Iran will go to the United States for their group-stage matches, but they will train and remain in Mexico during the competition. According to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico has no problem hosting Iranian players, but the United States does not want them to spend the night there.

It is reported that the U.S. State Department and a representative for the Trump World Cup Task Force declined to comment on the situation.
