The Supreme Court Justice in Chamber Yussif Kaba has ordered the leadership of the Press Union of Liberia to take siege of the ongoing election saga within one week.
The chamber justice decision was triggered based on a writ of prohibition filed by the Champaign Team of Julius Kanubah PUL defeated candidate in the Gbarnga Congress.
As a fraternity and a responsible organization, the Union should be able to settle their differences amicably, according to Justice Kaba.
On Wednesday, November 23, 2022, the two parties through their lawyers argued their case before Justice Kaba, but Justice Kaba reserved a ruling on the matter.
Minutes after the brief conference with Justice Kaba, two executives of the Press Union of Liberia outgoing President Charles Coffey and outgoing Secretary Musa Kanneh expressed optimism about resolving the issue.
Justice Kaba gave PUL Leadership one week ultimatum to resolve the ongoing elections saga within a one-week period.
The PUL had a contentious electoral Congress last weekend, November 19, 2022, in Gbarnga City Bong County, where it elected vice president Daniel Nyankonah and Bettie Johnson Mbayo to the president and vice president positions.
Julius Kanubah, the primary challenger in the race, has insisted that there were fraud and irregularities throughout the process.
Despite the controversies surrounding the election, the Union still held its 2022 Leadership election on Saturday, November 19, 2022. On Friday, November 18, 2022, Julius Kullie Kanubah’s campaign team put a rate of injunction on the process; however, it was later lifted on Saturday, November 19, 2022.
In accordance with the ruling issued by the Liberian Supreme Court, members of the Union will have to wait another week to hear from the Charles Coffey Leadership regarding the election.
