An American-based women’s football club, Ambassadors FC on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, whipped Liberia female senior national team 5-2 at the SKD Sports Complex practice pitch in Paynesville.
Determine Girls-Paulino Agbosu put Liberia ahead in the early minutes of the first half, but Anna Rico scored for Ambassadors FC to make the score 1-1 in the first half. Early in the second half after several misses from the Americans, Decontee Jackson of Liberia-based Ambassadors FC increased the score 2-1 to Liberia, but the lead did not last long as Kobin Albert equalized for Ambassadors FC to make it 2-2 within 25minutes of play.

Korbin Albert completed her double following a brilliant display between two of Liberia’s central defenders to place the ball at the back of the next for their third goal, while Eve Berish and Jamia fields scored the 4th and 5th goals.
Ambassadors Cleveland USA arrived in Liberia on Sunday, January 16, 2022, on a week tour in an effort to promote women’s football and to help Ambassadors programs (based in the United States) assist football development in Liberia while enhancing the Gospel.
They also whipped Liberia-based Ambassadors FC 5-1 in their first friendly on Monday, January 17, 2022, as part of their visit to Liberia. Their last match will be on Friday, January 21, 2022, at the Doris Williams Sports Center in Grand Bassa County against Liberia’s female national team on matchday two.
Speaking to Journalists following the end of the match, the Coach of Ambassadors FC, Caleb fortune said he was impressed with the way the Liberians played. According to him, he never thought of what was demonstrated by the Liberians in the match. “This is the second time we have been to Africa. We don’t know how best the team played, but we were surprised at halftime to have experienced such a brilliant display. African football is in good hands. The team defender well attacked well, created several scoring chances, which I believe there are lots to come. Liberian coaches are doing well for the game, we won because of the team that we have. In America, we score a lot of goals, winning with such scored just suggest to you how bigger our team is”, Coach Fortune revealed.
For his part, the head coach of the Liberia female national team, Robert Larteh said, lack of preparation is one of the challenges affecting the team at this moment. According to him, the team is not normally involved in regular training like in 2019, when they won 3rd place in the WAFU competition in Sierra Leone at the expense of hosts of great countries with high developing female football.
“It is impossible for a team to train for three days, four days, or two days and go against an experienced team and expect your team to win. Today, the Liberia Football Association has no funds for women’s football like in the past. I understand, they said the government is not really supporting women’s football again and every time we asked them to the training team, they complained of lack of money. We have a great team but, lack of preparation is what matters. Other countries are winning today because of preparation”, Coach Larteh added.
