Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia’s prospects of competing in the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup in 2024 are still in jeopardy following a 4-1 loss to Nigeria at home.
After losing badly to Nigeria at home in the 2024 FIFA U-17 World Cup qualifiers on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the SKD, Liberians will have to wait for a longer time.
Following their loss, Nigerians had a 75% chance of qualifying ahead of their West African counterparts. Based on their prior domination in African women’s football, they entered the match as the clear favorites.
Many football fans ranked them as the favorites to advance after they qualified for this tournament multiple times, surpassing Liberia, who have been struggling in every facet of the game.
Their victory over Liberia was not very disappointing because Nigerians have superior grassroots initiatives and more international competition experience.
In their most recent games, Nigeria showed to be superior as they easily defeated Burkina Faso 7-1 on aggregate to advance to the last qualifying round against Liberia, who defeated Senegal 3-3 on aggregate.
