Monrovia, Liberia – One of the four boxers chosen to represent Liberia at the forthcoming All African Games in Ghana starting on Friday, March 8th, is a local, and he has pledged to make Liberia famous.
Timothy Williams declared that he would show the outside world that Liberia boasts excellent local boxers who are qualified to compete in world championships.
On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, Timothy chatted with this medium while working out as usual at the Liberia Boxing Association headquarters in Monrovia.
Grace Fahnbulleh of Canada, a lone female boxer, will join him, but Freddy Kiwit will continue to go by his other name.
“This is my first time competing in the All African Games, even though I built a brand and participated in an international tournament in Sierra Leone a few years ago. I didn’t see this opportunity coming, especially now, but I can say that the money I earned through hard work has motivated me to go and do well in that tournament.”
Speaking to Reports231, Arku Kortee, the head coach of the Liberia National Boxing team, urged the Ministry of Youth and Sports to allocate a share of government funding to individual sports. Coach Kortee claimed that the government had abandoned individual sports over time, which he felt was unfair to other athletes.
Speaking about the choice of Timothy Williams from a pool of talented local athletes, Coach Arku Kortee said it was unanimous and that Williams had demonstrated beyond a shadow of a doubt to be the best in the nation right now.
