WASSCE administrators faced prosecution for examination malpractice and bribery.

Reported by: Mariama Jalloh

Monrovia, Liberia – The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has charged and forwarded to court seven proctors assigned to administer the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) at Global Net Preparatory School in the FDA Community over allegations of examination malpractice and bribery.

According to a police charge sheet dated June 16, 2026, the accused proctors are among a group of eight individuals charged with bribery, unlawful rewarding of public servants, and criminal conspiracy. The charges stem from an investigation conducted by the Liberia National Police following complaints from WAEC Liberia.

Investigators alleged that the defendants conspired to collect L$300 from each candidate sitting the WASSCE mathematics examination at the centre. Police said the money was collected to compromise the integrity of the examination process by assisting candidates with answers during the test.

The investigation further revealed that a total of L$58,380 was allegedly collected from students seated on the first and second floors of the examination center. While some of the accused admitted that meetings were held to discuss the collection of the money, others denied any knowledge of the alleged scheme.

The LNP, however, concluded that sufficient evidence exists to charge the defendants and forward the matter to court. The accused are expected to face trial for alleged violations of Liberia’s Penal Law relating to bribery, unlawful rewarding of public servants, and criminal conspiracy.
