Over 100 To Receive Awards Nationwide
Monrovia, Liberia – Under the theme “Moving to Billions, Celebrating Taxpayers’ Impact,” the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) will begin a series of events on Wednesday, November 20, in honor of its 2024 Annual Taxpayers Appreciation and Awards Ceremony. This yearly occasion honors taxpayers for their priceless contributions to Liberia’s progress and development.
“The LRA recognizes that taxes are essential to funding public sector investments and growth in all areas of government, even if paying taxes is a civic obligation. “Commmissioner General James Dorbor Jallah says that people who regularly pay their taxes should be honored and encouraged.
With sponsorship from USAID, this year’s event, the fifth in LRA’s ten-year existence, will include 2022 and 2023 awardees. It is important to note that because of the election events during those years, the LRA did not host the program.
Under the direction of Commissioner General Jallah, the LRA will provide a variety of products to the Peter W. Sonkorlon Orphanage Home in Bong Mine, Margibi County, on Wednesday, November 20th, as part of this year’s Taxpayer Appreciation Week.
As part of the LRA’s CSR initiatives, the contribution will emphasize the value of paying taxes and show how they can be used to improve the lives of regular citizens.
The first-ever National Student Tax Day Parade will be held on Thursday, November 21st at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town by the LRA in partnership with the Ministry of Education and USAID LEAD partner InfoQuest. This will be followed by an inside program.
In addition to highlighting the long-term collaboration between the LRA and the Ministry of Education to incorporate tax education into the national curriculum, the event aims to plant the seeds of tax consciousness within Liberia’s student body.
More than 100 taxpayers will receive plaques, awards, and other alluring perks on Friday, November 22nd, in recognition of their exceptional contributions as the highest and most compliant taxpayers. Businesses and people from Liberia’s 15 counties will be honored with these prizes.
On Saturday, November 23, the LRA will host a Sports Day in Sinkor’s Invincible Park to wrap up the taxpayer appreciation activities.
Motivating and encouraging taxpayers and non-taxpayers to actively support the nation’s domestic resource mobilization activities and contribute to Liberia’s continued growth is the goal of the LRA’s Taxpayer Appreciation and Awards Ceremony.
