The Ministry of Health said it has begun taking surveillance at various entrance points amid a report of the discovery of a new variant of covid-19 omicron in South Africa.
Speaking on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at the Ministry of Information, Liberia’s Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah said, as part of efforts to prevent Liberians against the new variant of covid-19 Health Authorities including NPHIL has begun keeping surveillance at various entry points to the country.
According to Dr. Jallah, both NPHIL and the ministry of Health have begun creating awareness and empowering health workers at the Roberts international airport and other point’s entries to keep watch and stop the entry of the omicron variant into the country.
She has, however, express concern over the new omicron variant of covid-19 and call on members of the public to make use of the covid-19 vaccine to protect and keep safe.
Meanwhile, Minster Jallah has revealed that Liberia has not recorded any covid-19 case as of yesterday. According to the health professional, her entity and NPHIL have embarked upon the training of health practitioners across the country so as to prepare and give them firsthand information to combat diseases and outbreaks now and in the future. It can be recalled that South Africa recorded cases of the new Omicron coronavirus variant which poses a high risk of infection surges around the globe.
