Monrovia, Liberia – In Seoul, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s delegation is holding bilateral talks with President Yool Suk Yeol of the Republic of South Korea, in conjunction with the Korea-Africa Summit 2024.

An Executive Mansion release dated May 4, 2024 states that President Boakai was congratulated on becoming the president of Liberia and received a warm welcome from President Yeol of South Korea during the sideline encounter.

Noting the ongoing 60-year friendship between the two countries, President Yeol also conveyed gratitude for Liberia’s historical support during the Korean War.

The Liberian president, for his part, expressed gratitude for the chance to take part in the first Korea-Africa Summit and restated Liberia’s steadfast commitment to strengthening its relationship with Korea.

Boakai detailed the complex issues that Liberia is facing in a number of areas, including infrastructure, agriculture, fishing, education, technology, human resource development, renewable energy, and port building.
He asked for Korea’s cooperation and help in order to overcome these obstacles.

President Yeol responded by promising to leverage partnerships in a number of areas, including the development of roads and infrastructure (subject to a comprehensive proposal); to offer scholarships to Liberian students wishing to study in Korea for a variety of subjects; and to provide support in furthering agricultural development in Liberia, including the transfer of agricultural technologies and a major emphasis on rice production.

The Korean leader also pledged his nation’s help for the growth of Liberia’s renewable energy sector, the transfer of digital skills and technologies to Liberia, and the improvement of that country’s fisheries industry.

President Yeol expressed Korea’s steadfast dedication to supporting and cooperating with Liberia in achieving its development goals and overcoming its present obstacles, thereby enhancing the welfare of the Liberian people.

Assuring President Boakai that Korea will effectively support the government’s Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation, and Tourism (ARREST) Agenda, the Korean leader also said that his nation is prepared to assist Liberia in overcoming its present obstacles and enhancing the lives of its citizens.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dean of the President’s Cabinet, Sara Beysolow Nyanti; the Minister of National Defense, Geraldine Janet George; the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Alexander Nuetah; and the Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism, Jerolinmek Matthew Piah, were among the officials who accompanied the Liberian leader during the bilateral meeting.
