Pythons give Oilers First National Basketball League loss in 2025.

Paynesville, Montserrado – The SKD Gymnasium was the epicenter of excitement on Sunday evening as the 2025 National Basketball League continued with a gripping showdown between title hopefuls LPRC Oilers and the ever-determined NPA Pythons.

The Pythons defeated Oilers 46–44 in a close game that was maybe one of the season’s most tactical and furious clashes. The victory was the Oilers’ first loss of the season, ending their winning streak and giving the Pythons’ hopes of making the playoffs a fresh start.

The Pythons, who are still fighting for one of the remaining playoff slots, greatly benefited from the outcome, even though the Oilers had already guaranteed their playoff participation.

There was an electrifying vibe throughout the gymnasium. There was a carnival atmosphere in the arena, filled with live musicians, rhythmic chanting, and a sea of team colors, due to the devoted fans of both clubs. The audience was completely involved from the first tip-off to the last buzzer, which increased the ferocity on the field with each basket, turnover, and defensive play.

Abubakar Kanneh, President of the NPA Sports Association, spoke after the game’s conclusion and commended the players and coaching staff for their faith, determination, and developing togetherness.

With joy, Kanneh said, “This victory just shows that we are more than ready. A team leadership crisis was a major factor in our poor start to the season. However, I’m happy to report that those internal problems have been fixed. On the court, you witness a cohesive, goal-oriented squad that is eager to succeed.”

The outcome against a top-tier team like the Oilers, he said, is evidence that the Pythons are recovering their competitive edge at the ideal moment. “We’re competing, not just taking part. And the players demonstrated tonight that anything is achievable with perseverance and heart,” Kanneh stated.

The NPA Pythons’ head coach, Raphael Quaye, also spoke to the media and commended his team’s performance and resiliency. Quaye remarked, “We knew going in that this would be one of our toughest games of the season.” However, we remained concentrated, trusted the game plan, and the lads played defense. I’m quite proud of the way we maintained our ground in the last moments. The Oilers are still among the league’s top competitors in spite of the close setback.

Destiny Kings lost badly against the Knight Reapers in the Second Division division, losing 71-46 in a match that was lopsided. The Reapers dominated right away, securing a resounding victory with excellent ball movement, quick breakouts, and perimeter shooting. Knight Reapers are still working to secure a solid finish in the second-tier division, while Destiny Kings have a lot to think about as they attempt to recover in their next games.
