Congo Town, Monrovia- Presidential Candidate, on the ticket of the Movement for Progressive Change Simeon Freeman on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 strongly disagreed with those calling for the establishment of war and economic crimes court in Liberia.
The MPC presidential candidate during a presidential debate argued that the campaign for the establishment of the war and economic crimes court is insignificant; noting that the nation’s growth and development should be the primary objective of every Liberian.
He caution citizens to direct their cries to the high rate of unemployment, and visible high level of corruption that continues to stall development in the country.
The MPC Standard Bearer view comes in conflict with several campaigns initiated by CSOs and the media on the implementation of the TRC report aimed at delivering justice to war victims and survivors.
It can be recorded that the TRC in 2010 recommended the prosecution of groups that committed economic crimes and listed over 57 Liberian to have a formal trial and those individuals be barred from holding public offices in the country including appointed positions for thirty (30) years.
Mr. Freeman told the gathering that the implementation of the TRC at this time is “of no need” as such, there is no need to promote justice and the rule of law in Liberia, and called on CSOs and the media to focus on something that will impact citizens positively.
The statement made by the MPC political Leader cause mix reactions in the Hall by some Liberian and International partners who went to witness the presidential debate.
