Eyes Major Boost For Liberia’s Police Reform Drive
USA – President Joseph N. Boakai carried out high-level talks with Jeffrey Glover, Director of Public Safety for the U.S. State of Arizona, during a quick visit to Washington, D.C., signalling growing international support for Liberia’s security sector reform. During the Liberian leader’s trip to California, a courtesy meeting was held with the aim of enhancing bilateral public safety cooperation, with a particular emphasis on accelerating reforms within the Liberia National Police.
According to an Executive Mansion statement, discussions centered on critical subjects like capacity building, institutional strengthening, and technical assistance all of which are essential pillars in Liberia’s endeavour to moderniZe its police force.
President Boakai used the engagement to highlight his administration’s dedication to creating a competent, accountable, and well-equipped police force that can uphold law and order and promote public trust. “A credible security sector remains the backbone of peace, rule of law, and national development, pointing to ongoing efforts to transform the country’s policing architecture,” the President emphasized.
In response, Glover expressed willingness to investigate practical cooperation between Arizona’s public safety authorities and Liberia and welcomed the chance to interact with Liberia at the highest level. In order to combat changing security threats, he emphasiZed the value of knowledge sharing, contemporary policing techniques, and strategic alliances.
Concrete collaboration in community policing, leadership development, and training programs areas deemed essential to enhancing operational effectiveness and responsiveness within the Liberian police force was also discussed during the meetings.
