Delta Airlines Placed Liberia On Cargo Restrictions

Amid US$19.2M Drug Seizure

Monrovia, Liberia – Some cargo shipments to, from, and through Liberia on Delta or Delta Connection planes have been strictly forbidden by Delta Airlines. No goods will be accepted for transportation, regardless of the air waybill stock, according to a statement on the Delta Airlines website.

Some goods shipments entering, leaving, or passing through Liberia were completely blocked by Delta Airlines. All flights operated by Delta Airlines and Delta Connection are affected. Since 2014, Delta has not run direct passenger flights to Monrovia; , however, all connecting cargo shipments are specifically prohibited by this regulation.

The statement claims that growing worries about international drug trafficking in the area prompted the imposition of the embargo. It comes shortly after a significant seizure in June 2026 at the Roberts International Airport, where 198 plates of suspected cocaine valued at US$19.2 million were seized by joint security forces and Liberian officials.

“Delta has placed a complete embargo on all cargo to/from/thru the following countries on Delta or Delta Connection aircraft, regardless of the air waybill stock,” according to the entire statement posted on the airline’s website. Cuba, Iran, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Maldives, Myanmar (Burma), North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen are among the nations impacted, according to Delta Airlines.

“It is important to note that Delta suspended all flights to Liberia since 2014 but was still onboarding and connecting passengers and cargo from Liberia,” the statement continued. A large consignment of cocaine valued at $19.2 million was stopped by the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) at Roberts International Airport (RIA) in June.

On June 8, LDEA investigators made the raid when they found 198 compressed plates of cocaine hidden in six cargo crates that were going to be exported by Brussels Airlines. One of the biggest busts in the nation’s history occurred on June 8. The following are important details about the operation and its aftermath. The 237,600 grams of cocaine that were found are worth US$19.2.
