Hon. Karishma Calls on Unity Party to Support with Rep. Kolubah Amid Legislature Investigation

Monrovia, Liberia – As Hon. Yekeh Y. Kolubah, the representative for Montserrado County District #10, is the subject of a continuing parliamentary investigation, former assistant foreign minister Hon. Karishma Pelham-Raad has urged the Unity Party to show political loyalty and support him. Speaking on Kolubah’s involvement in the 2023 presidential election, Pelham-Raad recalled his unwavering backing for the Unity Party in the second round of campaigning, pointing out that he did so despite having a lot of other options and offers at the time.

She emphasized that the Unity Party now has an obligation to return what she called Kolubah’s sacrifice throughout the election process, saying that loyalty should be rewarded with commitment. She stressed that given Yekeh’s current struggles, this is the time for the party to support him. In accordance with Articles 38 and 76 of the Liberian Constitution, Representative Kolubah is presently being investigated by the House of Representatives for suspected “Gross Breach of Duty and Violation of Oath of Office.”

The House Committee on Rules, Order and Administration has given Kolubah a two-day extension to obtain legal counsel as part of the ongoing procedure. The five-day request, which committee members deemed excessive given the duration of the current Special Session, has been replaced by this extension. The extension goes into effect right away, and the decision was made during a hearing on Monday. Rep. James Kolleh, the committee chair, promised that due process will be followed in compliance with the House’s rules.

The next hearing has been set for Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 10:00 AM, he added.
Rep. Kolubah had already requested more time to hire legal representation, claiming that the Fast and Prayer holiday and the temporary shutdown of law offices between April 10 and 12 hindered his ability to get ready for the hearing that was initially set for April 13, 2026. As lawmakers go forward with the probe and appeals for justice and solidarity come from political actors, the matter continues to get political attention.
