Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph N. Boakai has voiced his dissatisfaction with the way minerals are being exported from Liberia. During the first cabinet meeting of 2025, held at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia on Monday, March 3, 2025, the President said, there are several leaks, particularly in Liberia’s mineral resources.

He said, a large number of mineral resources are routinely or informally departing Liberia via Robert International Airport. The Liberia Leader explained that the government should check Robert International Airport if it must take drastic measures to ensure that these activities are stopped.

“The minerals are what we depend on to develop this country; we are not going to allow people to take that likely.”

President Boakai stated that he is concerned about the impending inspection at RIA in his capacity as president, given the country’s daily rise in flights.

“There are plans to put supervision in place as to how things leave the country through the airport. This administration is dedicated to making sure that the nation’s resources have an impact on the lives of its people. We are dedicated to ensuring that the resources of this nation will be used to improve the lives of the people,”  the president explained.

However, the President has admitted to challenges in the country, but said that there are plans by the government to resolve them. The Liberian leader also clarified that Liberians have endured and continue to endure hardships in their nation, stating that it is past time for them to have the chance to enjoy its wealth.

According to President Boakai, the government’s top priority in Liberia is infrastructure. “We will be able to open up the country and have more money to pay in terms of health, among other things, with infrastructure.”

At the same time, President Boakai has instructed ministers who are concentrating on the 2029 elections to either leave or give the work of Liberians first priority. “You may politely step down if 2029 is your main priority. Serving the Liberian people is my top concern at the moment.”
