TERMS DECISION ON BEHALF OF LIBERIA ”AN ACT OF WI KEDNESS”
Monrovia, Liberia – President George Weah has directed Foreign Minister Maxwell Kemayah to reverse a recent UN Climate Change Conference ruling by Liberia (Cop28) endorsing the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. The people who supported Liberia in the UN’s Cop28 vote, according to President Weah, are evil and will suffer from God’s wrath. He gives the impression that he is unaware of the outcome.
The departing Liberian leader insisted that he has always advocated for peace in regional and other international conferences while speaking at his Forky Klon Jlateh Family Fellowship Church on Sunday, December 17, 2023, along the Robert Field Highway. He also added that he could not possibly condone the deaths occurring in Gaza.
The former football great and peace envoy pleaded with the Foreign Affairs Minister to see to it that Liberia’s vote in favour of keeping up the conflict in Gaza be changed to one in favour of halting it.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel and Hamas-led Palestinian militant organisations have been engaged in an armed battle that primarily occurs in and around the Gaza Strip, with skirmishes also occurring in the West Bank and along the Israel-Lebanon border. That day saw the beginning of the biggest military build-up in the area since the Yom Kippur War in 1973, when terrorist organisations launched an unexpected onslaught on southern Israel from the Gaza Strip.[59] Following the evacuation of Hamas terrorists, the Israeli military launched a massive aerial bombardment campaign against Gazan sites in retaliation. This was followed by a massive ground invasion of Gaza. As a component of the larger Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the ongoing hostilities between Gaza and Israel represent the sixth war in this conflict. Approximately 500,000 Israelis and 1.9 million Palestinians more than 85% of Gaza’s population have been internally displaced.
The conflict started when Palestinian militant groups, led by Hamas, launched a flurry of rockets at Israel. Meanwhile, some 3,000 militants broke through the Gaza-Israel border and attacked Israeli military installations and civilian areas, killing 1,139 people, including 695 Israeli citizens, 373 members of the security services, and 71 foreigners. An undetermined number of fatalities from friendly fire are included in the total. An estimated 240 Israeli citizens, troops, and foreigners were transported as hostages or prisoners to the Gaza Strip. According to Hamas, Israel’s ongoing occupation of Palestinian territory, blockade of the Gaza Strip, growth of illegal Israeli settlements, increasing violence by Israeli settler groups, and recent escalations were the reasons behind their strike.
