President Weah Dedicates PHP Recreation Park in Monrovia

Monrovia, Liberia – The PHP Recreation Park in Monrovia has been formally dedicated by President George Weah of Liberia. On Saturday, December 23, 2023, the most talked-about recreational facility which includes a gym, two football fields, two basketball courts, two volleyball courts, a female-only kickball field, a restaurant, kids’ playground, and an administrative building was dedicated.

The governments of Liberia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) jointly funded the park, dubbed Liberia Unification Park, with the help of a grant. The Park also boasts a memorial monument at the site where the 13 senior government officials of the Tolbert administration were executed for public Corruption; in the immediate aftermath of the April 1980 military coup.

Several high-ranking officials from the current and past Liberian government attended the dedication ceremony, including the former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

Speaking during the event, President Weah stated that the Park will endure as a symbol of the nation’s previous tranquilly while simultaneously serving to advance peace among all residents, regardless of their varied backgrounds.

The chief executive of Liberia went on to say that the leisure centre ought to serve as a reminder to all Liberians to promote togetherness for the good of the nation.

The dedication of the Liberia Unification Park comes barely one month to the officially turning over of power from the Coalition for Democratic Change government to the Unity Party administration headed by former Liberia Vice President now President-elect Joseph Nyuma Boakai.

The Liberian Leader stated that the cost of the PHP recreational center is seven million (7m) United States Dollars.

With the dedication of the PHP recreational sports park, President George Manneh Weah’s administration has built four sports parks in total, namely; the Invincible Sports Park, Clara Town Sports Park, Doe Community Sports Park, and PHP Community Sports Park.
