QNET Representative Cleared in High-Profile Liberia Case; Company Stands Firm Against Misuse of Its Brand

In a significant ruling on October 21, 2024, Yacouba Sawadogo, an independent representative of QNET, was acquitted by a Liberian court on charges of human trafficking, theft, kidnapping, and conspiracy. A jury found insufficient evidence to convict Sawadogo, with eleven of twelve jurors voting to clear him of the allegations. The high-profile case, which raised questions about independent contracting in multi-level marketing, has spurred QNET to reinforce its efforts in preventing brand misuse.

Allegations and Verdict Sawadogo, alongside two individuals charged in absentia, had been accused of recruiting eleven Sierra Leoneans under false promises of assistance for overseas travel, allegedly isolating them and restricting their freedoms. The prosecution claimed the trio deceived the individuals into a recruitment scheme, demanding additional referrals for release. However, the jury’s verdict pointed to a lack of credible evidence, resulting in Sawadogo’s acquittal.

QNET’s Firm Stance Against Misconduct Responding to the case, Biram Fall, QNET’s Regional General Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa, expressed that QNET remains committed to ethical business practices and strongly condemns any exploitation associated with its brand. “QNET upholds stringent standards for its independent representatives. Any misuse of the QNET name is a violation of our policies, and we are taking proactive steps to ensure accountability and transparency,” Fall emphasized. He clarified that QNET was not involved in the actions alleged in this case.

Reinforcing Compliance and Public Awareness The case has prompted QNET to intensify oversight and training programs for its independent representatives. The company has launched an awareness campaign, educating the public on QNET’s legitimate business model and urging people to report any misconduct through its numerous stakeholder engagements and social media campaigns.

QNET’s focus on responsible entrepreneurship in Africa and beyond remains unwavering. While Sawadogo’s acquittal marks the end of one chapter, QNET aims to strengthen safeguards, ensuring its business remains a trusted avenue for empowerment without compromise.
