Monrovia, Liberia – The Unity Party has informd he general public that it regrets a recent Facebook post in which Mohammed Ali, the Rescue Mission’s campaign spokesperson, falsely accused the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) of “receiving USD$150,000.00” to undermine the organization’s impartiality in the country’s 2023 election process.
A press statement from the Unity Party said the assertion was at no time sanctioned by the Unity Party, it Standard-bearer, or the Campaign Team. It should be noted that the UP does recognize and value the indispensable role ECOWAS has played in Liberia’s rebirth and renewal.
In line with the UP’s policy of bolstering Liberia’s membership in ECOWAS, the party’s national secretary general, Amos Tweh, signed the statement, which also stated that the UP reassures ECOWAS, the UN, and Liberia’s bilateral and multilateral partners of its unwavering commitment to all protocols that Liberia has either acceded to, signed, or ratified.
The UP went on to say that it regrets Mohammed Ali’s statement, acknowledging that it does not represent the Unity Party’s views. The statement was issued on November 15, 2023, after the 2023 prsidential run-off on its official social media (Facebook) platform.
