    ALP’s Benoni Urey supports Weah’s re-election

AS OTHER NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS AND COUNTIES LEADERSHIP ENDORSES BOAKAI

Old Road, Sinkor – The All Liberian Party, led by businessman Benoni Urey, says the ALP is not ready to dance with the devil and backs George Weah’s reelection campaign. President George Weah’s reelection campaign has received official backing from businessman Benoni Urey’s All Liberian Party ahead of the November 14, 2023, presidential run-off election.

During the endorsement ceremony, Urey stated that the ALP is dedicated to making sure President Weah wins reelection in Liberia’s presidential run-off election in 2023. He claims the party has finally gone home and that the ALP is not ready to dance with the devil.

On October 28, 2023, the Executive Committee of the All Liberian Party, comprising more than 2/3 of the Executive Committee and National Leadership, termed fake, unconstitutional, and totally unpopular the planned endorsement of President George Weah by a clique of partisans of the ALP. According to the press release, the ALP informed partisans and the general public that the majority membership of the Executive Committee does not approve the planned endorsement slated for Sunday, October 29, 2023, at the National Headquarters of the ALP and therefore will not participate in the program.

They cited Article 5.4.1, section B, of the ALP constitution, which gives the National Executive Committee the authority to assume the powers of the National Convention for the smooth running of the party and to formulate and adopt general policies, programs, projects, and procedures pursuant to the overall governance of the party, in the recess of the National Convention.

It noted that decision such as collaboration or endorsement is normally made by 2/3 majority of the EC Members and is transmitted into a resolution signed by members who made the decision. The release added that, it is regettable and unfortunate that since September 22, 2023, when the EC of the ALP vehemently voted aganist the deciasion to colloborate with the Coalition for Democratic Change in the first, noting that the EC has not reconvened to reverse its decision not to support CDC.

The statement added that with the support and approval of most of the National Leadership of ALP both statutory and Non- statutory members of the EC, county leaders and others in accordence with ALP constitution affixed their signature to an official resolution signed and notarized by law to support and endorse Unity Party Joseph Boakai in the re-run of the 2023 presidential election.

It is evident that the ALP has divided, much like the Liberty Party, which backs both the UP and the CPP. The ALP was reportedly a founder member of the CPP and a fervent supporter of the Unity Party Boakai, but they eventually declined their invitation to join and switched allegiance to the CDC.
