Monrovia, Liberia – Former Representative Joseph Papa Kolleh of Bong County District #7 has expressed disapproval of the way accusations against Representative Yekeh Kolubah of Montserrado County District #10 have been handled, calling the procedure unduly severe and incompatible with due process.
According to Hon. Kolleh, authorities should follow existing legal procedures instead of taking what he described as premature punitive action if Kolubah is suspected of committing a crime against the state, PROBE NEWSPAPER REPORTS.
Kolleh stated in a statement that the Ministry of Justice should formally examine all of the information, including statements purportedly made on Spoon Network, and inform the House of Representatives if any action is necessary.
According to him, the House should consider temporary measures like suspension while an inquiry is conducted and make the legislator accessible for interrogation upon receiving such a request. “Only after a thorough and impartial investigation, supported by clear findings, should any further disciplinary action be taken,” Kolleh said.
Public accountability is crucial, but it must be combined with fairness and adherence to institutional procedures, the former representative stressed. Bypassing due process, he cautioned, could undermine trust in democratic institutions and the rule of law. Although the specifics of the accusations and the steps taken by politicians have continued to spark debate nationwide, Kolubah has been at the center of an intensifying political struggle.
