Bong County Council Resumes Sitting, Opens Review of US$3.94 Million Budget

GBARNGA, Bong County – The Bong County Council has resumed its second quarter sitting at the Gbarnga Administration Building after a court injunction that briefly halted proceedings was lifted, with delegates immediately taking up review of a proposed US$3,941,666.46 Fiscal Year 2026 budget submitted by county authorities.

The council session, regarded as one of Bong County’s highest local decision-making forums, brings together government officials, traditional leaders, civil society representatives, youth groups, women organizations, and other stakeholders to deliberate on development priorities, budget performance, accountability, and pressing public concerns.

The sitting was initially scheduled to begin on April 29 but was suspended following a preliminary injunction issued by the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court on April 28. The order temporarily created uncertainty over the county’s quarterly deliberations until legal issues before the court were resolved.

With the injunction lifted, County Council Chairman Aaron Sackie-Fenlah confirmed the resumption of the meeting and urged all delegates to remain focused on the county’s development agenda. During the reopened session, county authorities led by Superintendent Hawa Loleyah Norris formally submitted the 2026 budget proposal through County Financial Officer Siles Tokpah.

Officials said the proposed spending plan is designed to fund priority sectors including infrastructure, education, healthcare, and administrative operations across Bong County. The Council, headed by Chairman Sackie-Fenlah, accepted the proposal for deliberation following a motion introduced by Chief Representative Isaiah S. Harris and seconded by member James S. Gontay.

The acceptance now triggers a 21-day review period, after which council members are expected to approve, amend, or revise the budget. Chairman Sackie-Fenlah described the submission as “the highest proposal ever in the county’s recent history,” signaling what many view as an ambitious fiscal plan for Bong County.

Residents across the county are closely monitoring the outcome of the sitting, as decisions reached are expected to shape road rehabilitation, school support, health services, youth empowerment, and other critical development programs in the months ahead.
