Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Electricity Corporation’s (LEC) Acting Management Team has aggressively committed to stabilizing the country’s energy supply in the coming weeks and months, promising to put an end to the country’s ongoing power outages.
Acting Managing Director Mohammed Sheriff stated during a press conference on Monday, April 7, 2025, the LEC’s Interim Management Team said, it is committed to providing dependable and continuous power, citing energy as one of Liberians’ top priority.
Mr. Sheriff stated that a high-level team will visit Guinea the following week to complete an agreement that will increase Liberia’s present electricity supply capacity by 30 megawatts. He added that this is more than simply rhetoric. “We are transforming the energy sector and optimizing domestic energy delivery by implementing practical solutions, enhancing cooperation, and monitoring performance,” Sheriff stated.
The impending deal with Guinea is anticipated to alleviate the burden on the nation’s existing power infrastructure and greatly expand access to reliable electricity. Given Liberia’s rising energy needs, the extra supply may be a huge help to the nation’s homes, businesses, schools, and health facilities among others.
LEC has also started moving its assets, like distribution and high-tension lines, out of the area where two new overpasses will be constructed along Tubman Boulevard in an effort to assist the development of the nation’s infrastructure.
