    For Dedication To Liberia’s Development

Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph N. Boakai has honored U.S Senator Jack Reed of Rhode island for his enduring support to Liberia. The Liberian leader spoke of Senator Reed’s commitment to the country and his crucial part in helping immigrants from Liberia settle in the US.

Speaking on Thursday, October 3, 2024, in the United States of Liberia’s Provident, Rhode Island, President Boakai conveyed his profound appreciation for Senator Reed’s steadfast support, especially for his role in guiding the enactment of the Liberian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act of 2019 (H.R. 1169).

He said thousands of Liberians in the United States now have a road to permanent residence thanks to the important law, enabling them to rebuild their lives in safety and dignity.

President Boakai praised Senator Reed’s work, citing it as a potent illustration of compassion and unity. The senator was recognized for his unceasing efforts to support Liberia throughout its most trying periods.
President Boakai said, “Senator Reed, you have championed the cause of Liberians, and we salute you. Your handprints are all over the struggle of the Liberian refugees here for survival, dignity, and advancement.”

Representative Grace Diaz of Rhode Island, who had earlier humorously “broken the tie” in favor of Liberia based on her Liberian-Dominican background, was also present at the occasion. President Boakai referred to her with great pleasure as “a native Liberian.”

President Boakai emphasized Representative Diaz’s steadfast support of the Liberian people and her efforts to promote Liberian culture via educational programs in Rhode Island. President Boakai extended an invitation to Senator Reed and Representative Diaz to visit Liberia, highlighting the close historical and cultural links that exist between Liberia and the State of Rhode Island.

The President also used the occasion to express gratitude for the long-standing partnership between Liberia and the US and to urge US allies to stand behind Liberia as it sets off on its path of national development.

The ARREST Agenda, which focuses on changes in agriculture, roads, the rule of law, education, sanitation & health, tourism & trade, and agriculture, was emphasized by the president.

He said that the future of the country still depends on the Liberian Diaspora and urged the community to keep supporting initiatives for peace, reconciliation, and sustainable development.

President Boakai declared, “Together, we are creating a better and more peaceful future for Liberia. We have risen from the ashes of conflict.”

President Boakai reaffirmed the importance of allies like Senator Reed, Representative Diaz, and the people of Rhode Island in helping Liberia fortify its democratic roots and move toward prosperity.

With a sincere blessing for everyone striving to improve Liberia at home and abroad, he concluded his speech.

For his part, the influential United States Senator from Rhode Island express deep appreciation for the gesture.

He reiterated his affection for Liberians while narrating his numerous positive encounters with them. He promised once more to keep advocating for Liberian interests in the US Congress.

Senator Reed’s exquisite traditional Liberian garb and Representative Diaz’s plaque presentation marked the culmination of the program.
