Monrovia, Liberia – Major General Davidson F. Forleh, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), has sharply denounced an unapproved attack on a police officer that was purportedly carried out by unnamed military troops. He urged composure while the situation is being investigated.

The identity and motivations of the suspected attackers are still unknown, thus the incident, which is said to have happened near the SD Cooper Road Junction in Paynesville on the evening of Thursday, February 26, 2025 is still unexplained.

Major General Forleh issued a formal statement expressing his profound worry about the situation and stressing that the AFL High Command had not approved of the alleged activities. As evidenced by the arrival of senior AFL and LNP officers on the scene to de-escalate the situation and restore calm, the statement said, “This action by these unidentified AFL personnel, acting on their own and not sanctioned by the High Command of the AFL, is concerning and required swift intervention.”

To stop the situation from getting worse, authorities from the Liberia National Police (LNP) and the AFL arrived on the site promptly. Since then, the AFL leadership has reassured the public that it is closely collaborating with national security authorities to keep the issue under control.

The press statement also stated that the AFL’s high leadership urges composure and reassures the public that it is actively communicating with national security authorities to keep the situation under control.

The military is unwavering in its dedication to discipline and professionalism in spite of the controversies. The Armed Forces of Liberia’s Acting Chief of Public Affairs, Major El-Dorado Nyanti Jebboe, reiterated that the AFL is still a “Force for Good.”

The public is asked to maintain calmness as the inquiry progresses and investigators work to discover the incident’s true cause.

According to eye witness account, the incident took place when an unidentified AFL officer was on a public transport motor bike that used the no go zone area and was asked to pack. It is said that the unidentified AFL officer try to resist the police commend which prompted the police to take action against the officer.
