Boakai Boost Liberia’s Technological Prospects in Ethiopia 

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. conclude a high-level state visit to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, which resulted in the signing of important bilateral agreements to improve collaboration in the fields of education, science, technology, and artificial intelligence (AI).

The agreements were signed at the National Palace in Addis Ababa on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, and were formalized with Memoranda of Understanding. Signed on behalf of their respective governments, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Republic of Liberia represented an important step in their shared development priorities.

President Boakai participated in a number of official events that demonstrated the strength of links between Ethiopia and Liberia during the visit. The President took a guided tour of the nearby museum after laying a wreath at the Adwa Victory Memorial Monument in remembrance of the heroes of the historic Battle of Adwa.

President Boakai was given full state honours at the National Palace, which included a guard of honour and an official welcome ceremony. Later, he met with his Ethiopian counterpart for a dét-à-tête, where they talked about common strategic goals, regional cooperation, and bilateral relations.

Following that, key officials from both administrations attended an enlarged bilateral meeting called by the two leaders. Their discussions centred on improving cooperation in important areas, especially education and cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence. The Memoranda of Understanding were signed and exchanged as a result of these discussions.

President Boakai also visited the Ethiopian Air Force Base and new irrigation-based urban agricultural facilities that highlighted Ethiopia’s progress in sustainable agriculture. Liberia’s efforts to cultivate strategic international alliances that support innovation, capacity-building, and sustainable development are highlighted by the visit of the Liberian Leader.

Meanwhile, President Boakai is expected back to Liberia Toaday, April 16, 2026 through the Roberts International Airport.
